Master Bedroom
The first of the six bedrooms is the Master Bedroom, adjacent to the Dining Room, and the largest bedroom in the house with views over the lawn towards the Gallery.
The Farmhouse has been lovingly renovated to retain some of its former stories, both in terms of architectural details and in hidden references to the families that have called this home over its long history.
*AUTUMN OFFER* Enjoy a complimentary Durslade Farm Shop hamper when you book a mid-week stay with us in October & November.
A six bedroom Farmhouse in the beautiful Somerset countryside, on the edge of Bruton. Durslade Farmhouse is located on the site of Hauser & Wirth Somerset and forms part of a group of Grade II listed farm buildings that date back from as early as 1760.
Renovated by Argentinian architect Luis Laplace, the Farmhouse is full of character and bold innovative twists. It celebrates the natural antiquity of the building combining original fittings with unexpected interiors and vintage furniture completed by unique artworks from Hauser & Wirth’s artists including a specially commissioned painted mural in the dining room by Guillermo Kuitca, and a mesmerising video installation by Pipilotti Rist which projects the Somerset landscape onto the walls of the sitting room through a chandelier of found objects and glass.
Durslade Farmhouse is available as a whole house rental (includes all 6 double bedrooms) for single nights, mid week, week and weekend stays – catering can be provided by on site restaurant Roth Bar & Grill.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a complimentary hamper filled with delicious local produce from Durslade Farm Shop. Situated just across the courtyard to the house, the shop is filled with an array of flavoursome foraged condiments, a butchery counter stocked with meat from our farm, fresh bread, fruit, vegetables, and a deli filled with homemade salads and sandwiches.
At present, there is no charging point for electric cars on the site.
Dogs Welcome
The Farmhouse is dog friendly. If you’d like to bring your four-legged friends with you, then please add them as an ‘Extra’ on your booking form.
On arrival, your pampered pooch will be presented with a water bowl and a selection of tasty treats. We’ll also supply biodegradable waste bags. The cost is an additional £25 per night, but if you do not let us know in advance, the charge will be £50 per night.
The Farmhouse floor plan can be viewed HERE.
All of the rooms have their own story to tell, and combine the historic and contemporary with the appropriate and unexpected. Often left raw, with unadorned plaster and exposed copper piping, the walls are hung with works by some of Hauser & Wirth’s most notable artists.
Make use of the large dining table with seating for 12 and ornate candelabra. The Roth Bar & Grill team can be booked (in advance) for your dinner party – everything from cocktails to coffee is delivered, served and cleared away so discreetly, you would never know they had been.
A room full of quirks, including a stuffed badger, gold-painted walls, and an unusual doll’s house – compliments of Pipilotti Rist. There is a log burner and ample seating to enjoy evening drinks, as you relax in front of the work of Pipilotti Rist.
As well as tea and cake on arrival, compliments of the Roth Bar & Grill, you will find luxury Smeg appliances alongside cupboards filled with new and vintage kitchenalia enabling you to make the most of all the local produce Somerset has to offer; while a selection of cookery books will inspire you to go out and forage in the nearby hedgerows for blackberries, or other such seasonal goodies.
The most distinctive feature here is a collection of Victorian vintage stickers. Attached to the panes of an internal window, these have remained untouched for years and are a reminder of the previous residents of the Farmhouse. Near the relaxed seating area around the wood-burning stove, you will find new and vintage board games and decks of cards to play. There is also a television to keep you up-to-date with the outside world, with Apple TV to access your own movie library.
Roth Bar & Grill is located a few steps across the courtyard from Durslade Farmhouse and can provide catering during your stay, including breakfast and dinner.
Durslade Farm Shop opened on-site in November 2020, celebrating and supporting the farmers, makers and growers in our community. The store is open 7 days a week and is stocked with all of the essentials you’ll need for your stay, as well as lots of treats too.
Durslade Farmhouse forms part of a group of Grade II-listed farm buildings which dates from as early as c.1760. It was originally owned by the Berkeley family, whose coat of arms can still be found above the west-facing entrance.
The farm in Bruton, Somerset, has changed hands three times since the 18th century; however, in recent years the buildings were left vacant and fell into disrepair. In 2012, Hauser & Wirth received planning permission to restore and conserve Durslade Farm.
